Brownwood High School is now displaying three state-championship monuments outside the entrance to Warren Gym, creating a permanent tribute to athletes and coaches from championship teams spanning more than four decades.
The new monuments honor the 2025 Class 4A Lady Lions track and field state championship team, along with Brownwood’s 1985 and 1986 Class 4A Lions golf state championship teams. Brownwood News reported the display on August 18, 2026, with an update published August 19.
A permanent tribute to Brownwood athletes
Brownwood ISD athletic director Brian Harris said the names placed on the monuments will remain available for the community to see and celebrate. He described the recognition as a major accomplishment for the athletes listed and for Brownwood athletics overall.
The track and field monument lists team members Hannah Deen, Rebekkah Delgado, Icess Hall, Aniah Hines, Braycee Lee, Jade Morin, Kaya Phillips, Kate Tindol, Jentry Coalson, I’nylah Hall, Jaidyn Hope, Grace Sparks and Sidney Windham.
It also recognizes head coach Chelsy Lipsey, assistant coaches Heather Hohertz and Bryan Clark, manager Talia Craff, superintendent Dr. Joe Young, deputy superintendent Liesa Land, assistant superintendent and athletic director Mitch Moore, and principal Lindsay Smith.
Golf champions from 1985 and 1986
The golf monument includes the members of Brownwood’s 1985 championship squad: Kevin Boscamp, Lance Boscamp, Robert Anderson, Shane Cabe and Drue Pounds. The 1986 team is represented by Lance Boscamp, Robert Anderson, Drue Pounds, Randy Bennett and Shannon Simpson.
The golf recognition also lists head coach James Scott, athletic director Gordon Wood, superintendent James Lancaster, 1985 principal Royce Blackburn and 1986 principal Kenneth West.
Community support and future additions
The monuments were made possible in part through donations from Howard Payne University, Cen Tex Body and Paint, Draco’s Janitorial and the Williams Family—James L., Jeanie, Mary, James A. and John.
Harris thanked the contributors for helping make the project possible and for their continued support of Brownwood ISD and Brownwood athletics. The display is expected to expand through the Wall of Champions behind the monuments, which will feature individual state champions from their respective sports in the future.
