Teen artists in Brownwood will soon have a new place to learn, create and work alongside peers. The Brownwood Art Association is launching Creative Edge, an after-school arts enrichment program for students ages 16–18 who have an interest in creativity.
The program will be based at the Brownwood Art Center, 215 Fisk, and is being made possible through support from the Harriet Gully Beadle Foundation. The association describes Creative Edge as a safe, welcoming setting where participants can explore traditional and digital art through structured instruction and independent studio time.
What Creative Edge will offer
Students will work with experienced artist mentors, instructors and volunteers. The program is intended to help participants develop creative skills, build confidence and connect with other young people who share their interests.
- Instruction in a range of traditional art mediums
- Digital art instruction using iPads and Apple Pencils
- Guest artists and speakers
- Independent studio time for personal projects
- Workshops, demonstrations and special events throughout the semester
All materials and instruction will be provided at no cost to participants. Pre-registration is required, however, so families should complete registration before attending the program.
Registration and September sessions
Registration is available in person at the Brownwood Art Center during regular gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families can also register online through the Brownwood Art Association website at brownwoodart.org.
A soft opening will give teens and parents an opportunity to learn more about Creative Edge. The introductory sessions are scheduled for Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Sept. 5 session from 2 to 4 p.m. All three sessions will be held at the Brownwood Art Center, 215 Fisk.
The association’s schedule lists the soft-opening sessions as Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. The supplied announcement does not identify the year for those September dates, although the announcement itself was posted Aug. 20, 2026.
