Drivers crossing the US 67 bridge at Pecan Bayou in Brownwood should expect changing traffic patterns and minor delays as TxDOT begins a bridge maintenance project expected to last approximately four to five weeks.
TxDOT’s contractor began work earlier this week, according to Brownwood News. The project is designed to extend the life of the bridge and will replace the existing asphalt on top of the bridge deck with a concrete overlay.
How traffic will move
The work will be completed in two phases. During the current phase, traffic has been shifted to the outside lanes while crews work on the inside lanes and center median.
In the second phase, traffic will move to the two inside lanes. That shift will allow crews to work on the outside lanes.
Throughout the project, traffic will merge into one lane in each direction. Motorists should plan for minor delays and allow additional time for their commutes. Drivers who can do so may want to choose an alternate route.
Day and night construction planned
Crews are scheduled to work during both daytime and nighttime hours to meet the estimated timeline, weather permitting. The project’s completion date could therefore be affected by weather conditions.
TxDOT is asking motorists to use caution in the work zone, watch for crews and equipment, obey the speed limit and avoid distractions. Drivers are also urged to remain patient while the bridge work is underway.
The project affects the US 67 bridge at Pecan Bayou in Brownwood and is intended to preserve the bridge deck through the asphalt removal and concrete-overlay work.
