A fundraiser at Potter’s Pizza has delivered more than $300 to American Legion Post 196, helping the Brownwood veterans organization continue programs serving youth, veterans and the wider community.

The donation came from the Sept. 21, 2026, fundraiser, according to Brownwood News. The post said the proceeds will support several of its initiatives, including its ongoing visits with veterans at the Care Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Brownwood.

Monthly visits support local veterans

American Legion Post 196 has visited the facility once a month for the past three years. During those visits, members play games with veterans, pay for their yearly Legion memberships and talk with them about topics related to veterans.

The facility has a VA contract that helps provide assisted-living support to veterans in the local community. It also provides transportation to Potter’s Pizza when the post holds its annual fundraiser, allowing veterans to leave the facility, share a free meal and spend time with other Post 196 members.

Annual meal continues alongside fundraising

Each year since the visits began, Post 196 members have voted to approve a free meal for veterans who have joined the Legion when the fundraiser is held at Potter’s Pizza. The meal gives participating veterans an opportunity for fellowship while supporting the post’s broader work.

Post members thanked Potter’s Pizza and community members who support the restaurant. The organization said the donation will help it continue its yearly efforts on behalf of veterans and the Brownwood community.

“Let no Veteran feel alone.”

The post also encouraged residents to thank veterans for their service when they meet them.
