Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood has earned two formal recognitions for its stroke program, giving patients in Brownwood and surrounding communities access to a hospital recognized under both national and Texas stroke-care standards.
The hospital recently received Primary Stroke Center Certification from DNV Healthcare USA Inc. and was designated a Primary (Level III) Stroke Facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
What the recognitions mean
DNV’s certification confirms that Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood meets national standards for stroke care. The certification followed a survey conducted in July, according to Hendrick Health News.
The Texas designation is awarded to hospitals that meet state standards for treating stroke patients and participate in efforts to improve stroke care throughout their region. Together, the recognitions reflect the hospital’s ability to provide rapid evaluation, treatment and coordinated care when patients experience stroke symptoms.
Hendrick Health said timely treatment is especially important for stroke patients because receiving the right care quickly can affect recovery. The hospital described the recognitions as an expansion of specialized healthcare access in Brownwood and the surrounding communities.

Krista Baty, chief administrative officer at Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood, credited the hospital’s physicians, nurses and support teams with building a coordinated stroke program.

Baty also emphasized the importance of speed during a stroke emergency.
“When a stroke occurs, every minute matters, and these achievements demonstrate our commitment to ensuring patients in Brownwood and the surrounding communities have access to advanced stroke care.”
