Brownwood’s historic jail will become a Halloween-night attraction this fall as the Brown County Museum of History hosts its Haunted Jail event on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026.
The after-dark experience is scheduled from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Brown County Museum of History and Historic Brown County Jail. Admission is $5 per person, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the historic building at their own pace.
What visitors can expect
The museum described the event as a slow, unsettling walk through the jail after dark. The experience will lead guests through dark hallways, shadowy cells and other eerie spaces in one of Brownwood’s most historic buildings.
Organizers said the atmosphere is intended to build suspense around the jail’s creaks, shadows and darkened corners. The museum’s announcement asks potential visitors whether they are brave enough to take the walk after dark.
