The Brownwood Lady Lions volleyball season ended Thursday night at Warren Gym, where Stephenville earned a straight-sets victory over the Lady Lions, 25-9, 25-13, 25-14.
The match closed Brownwood’s second season under head coach Kristen Grimes. The Lady Lions finished the 2026 campaign with a 7-27 overall record and went 0-10 against district opponents.
Grimes points to growth
Despite the record, Grimes said the team developed during the season, particularly because many players moved up from the junior varsity roster.
“There was a lot of growth this season,” Grimes said. “The majority of our team was made up of kids that were on JV last year. With that being said, we’ve seen tremendous growth in terms of individual development. Defensively, we’re stronger than we were last year, which is huge. Serve receive and our ball control is better than it was last year, we just have to get better at being able to terminate a rally and putting balls down. That’s where we struggled the most.”
Brownwood’s statistical leaders
Demayha Hooker led the Lady Lions with six kills. Camryn Gipson, Ashantia Green and Lexi Driskill each recorded two, while Kaydence Chandler and Kimber McLean added one apiece.
Driskill finished with nine assists, and Jordyn Brixey had five. Driskill served two aces, while Adyn Lucas, Brixey and Chandler each added one.
Abby Brasher led Brownwood defensively with 12 digs. Kinsey Chandler recorded five, Driskill and Lucas had three apiece, and Gipson, Brixey, McLean and Kaydence Chandler each contributed two. Kendall Ratliff added one dig.
At the net, Gipson, Green, Lucas and Hooker each recorded a block.
