Three Brownwood High School championship teams now have a permanent place of honor outside Warren Gym, where new monuments recognize the 2025 Class 4A Lady Lions track and field state championship team and Brownwood’s 1985 and 1986 Class 4A Lions golf state championship teams.
The monuments were on display in front of the Warren Gym entrance Tuesday, Aug. 18, according to KOXE Local Sports. The installation gives students, families, alumni and visitors a place to see the names connected to some of Brownwood athletics’ state-title history.
Names from the 2025 track and field championship
The track and field monument lists team members Hannah Deen, Rebekkah Delgado, Icess Hall, Aniah Hines, Braycee Lee, Jade Morin, Kaya Phillips, Kate Tindol, Jentry Coalson, I’nylah Hall, Jaidyn Hope, Grace Sparks and Sidney Windham.
It also recognizes head coach Chelsy Lipsey, assistant coaches Heather Hohertz and Bryan Clark, manager Talia Craff, superintendent Dr. Joe Young, deputy superintendent Liesa Land, assistant superintendent and athletic director Mitch Moore, and principal Lindsay Smith.
Golf champions from 1985 and 1986
The golf monument recognizes the 1985 squad members Kevin Boscamp, Lance Boscamp, Robert Anderson, Shane Cabe and Drue Pounds. The 1986 team listed on the monument included Lance Boscamp, Robert Anderson, Drue Pounds, Randy Bennett and Shannon Simpson.
Golf personnel recognized include head coach James Scott, athletic director Gordon Wood, superintendent James Lancaster, 1985 principal Royce Blackburn and 1986 principal Kenneth West.
KOXE reported that the story headline referred to “the 1985 and 1985 Class 4A Lions golf state championship teams,” while the article text identifies the teams as the 1985 and 1986 squads. The body of this report follows the year-by-year team information provided in the article text.
Donors helped make the display possible
Howard Payne University, Cen Tex Body and Paint, Draco’s Janitorial and the Williams Family—James L., Jeanie, Mary, James A. and John—provided donations that made the monuments possible.
“The names on those monuments will be there forever for everyone to look at and celebrate,” Brownwood ISD athletic director Brian Harris said Tuesday afternoon. Harris also described the achievement as significant for the athletes named and for Brownwood athletics as a whole.
According to the report, the Wall of Champions behind the monuments will eventually feature individual state champions from their respective sports, creating additional space to recognize Brownwood athletes in the future.
