Brownwood ISD has moved from a C rating to a B under the Texas Education Agency’s accountability system, with the district’s overall score rising from 78 to 83. The results, issued in a Brownwood ISD press release Friday, also show significant improvement at Brownwood High School and an A rating for East Elementary.
The district’s 83-point score places Brownwood ISD in the B category for the latest accountability results. The rating represents a five-point increase from the previous year and reflects stronger student outcomes across the district, according to the release.
Brownwood High School records largest gain
Brownwood High School received a B rating with a score of 89, an 11-point increase from its previous score of 78. The high school’s improvement was the most pronounced gain identified in the district’s results.
East Elementary earned an A rating. Brownwood Middle School received a B, while Woodland Heights Elementary, Coggin Elementary and Northwest Elementary each received a C.
At the district level, all three accountability measures tracked by the state improved: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps. The district said the gains indicate progress across Brownwood ISD rather than an improvement limited to one campus or student group.
Superintendent credits students, staff and families
Brownwood ISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young attributed the results to work by students, teachers, staff, administrators and families. “These ratings are something our entire Brownwood community can be proud of,” Young said in the district’s release.
Young highlighted Brownwood High School’s move from 78 to 89, saying the growth reflected teachers challenging students and students responding. He also said every major accountability measure improved, describing the results as evidence of collective work throughout the district.
“They reflect the hard work our students put in every day and the incredible commitment of our teachers, staff, administrators, and families. I am especially proud of the growth at Brownwood High School, which rose from 78 to 89.”
Young cautioned that accountability ratings do not describe everything happening in Brownwood classrooms. He said they nevertheless provide confirmation of the quality of education and the ongoing work of district employees.
The district’s stated focus remains continuous improvement for its own students. Young said Brownwood ISD’s goal is not to outperform another district, but to become the best version of itself. He identified both East Elementary’s A rating and the district-wide progress behind the B rating as accomplishments worth recognizing.
