Residents interested in Brownwood history and family research can visit the Local History and Genealogy Library on Thursday, Oct. 8, for an open house celebrating two milestones: the 47th anniversary of the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society and the 20th anniversary of the Genealogy Library as a branch library.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 213 South Broadway in Brownwood. The library is the home of the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society.

What visitors can expect

Guests will be able to tour the library, learn about its history, meet volunteers and explore how the facility can support family-history research. The collection includes records and other resources for people investigating their family background.

  • Refreshments will be served throughout the day.
  • Door prizes will be available.
  • Volunteers will provide free help with family-history and genealogy research.

The organizers said the assistance is available to both experienced researchers and people who are simply curious about their roots. Volunteers will be available to explain the library’s resources and help visitors begin or continue their research.
