Brownwood readers will have a chance to meet author Thomas Goodman when he returns to town for a signing of his new Texas Tales novel, Through Many Dangers. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Intermission Bookshop.
A new story drawn from Texas history
Through Many Dangers is a standalone historical novel inspired by a true Texas story. The book takes readers to East Texas in 1905, where a young Methodist preacher faces bootlegging, corruption and violence.
As the story develops, the preacher becomes known as the “pistol-packing preacher,” according to the event announcement. The novel continues Goodman’s focus on dramatic episodes from Texas history while presenting a new, self-contained story.
Goodman’s previous Brownwood appearance
Goodman previously visited Brownwood for the release of his first novel, The Last Man. That book was based on the 1927 Santa Claus Bank Robbery, and Goodman held a signing at the Brown County Museum of History.
The Last Man later received the 2024 Spur Award and a 2024 Will Rogers Medallion, according to Brownwood News.
Goodman’s Oct. 10 appearance at Intermission Bookshop will give local readers an opportunity to purchase or bring a copy of his latest novel for signing. The announcement directs readers to the event information for additional details.
