The Texas Department of Transportation has appointed Stephen Kasberg, P.E., as district engineer for the Brownwood District, placing him in charge of the agency’s local district operations effective September 1, 2026.
TxDOT announced the appointment Tuesday, September 8. Kasberg brings more than two decades of experience with the agency, including work in engineering, construction, traffic operations, pavement management and district maintenance.
Kasberg’s TxDOT career
Kasberg began his TxDOT career as a summer employee in the Waco District in 2000. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 2004, he joined the agency full time as an engineering assistant in the Huntsville Area Office within the Bryan District.
His early assignments included rotations in design, the district laboratory, Bryan Area Office Construction and traffic operations. After earning his Professional Engineer license in 2009, he became a project engineer in the Bryan Area Office, where he oversaw a variety of transportation projects.
Kasberg later held leadership positions in the Bryan District as district maintenance engineer and district pavement engineer. He returned to the Waco District in 2015 as district pavement engineer before becoming area engineer for the Gatesville Area Office in 2017.
In 2020, he became the Belton Area Engineer. His most recent position was Waco District Director of Maintenance, a role he took on in 2023.
Experience responding to major weather events
As Waco District Director of Maintenance, Kasberg led all aspects of district maintenance operations. That work included directing the district’s response to significant weather events, including widespread flooding that affected the Waco District during the summer of 2024.
His background in maintenance, pavement management, construction and emergency response will now be part of his leadership of the Brownwood District. The source announcement did not provide additional details about upcoming projects or operational changes under his appointment.
Family and interests
Outside of work, Kasberg and his wife, Katelyn, have been married for 12 years and have three children: Madison, Tatum and Colin.
Madison is pursuing a degree in speech therapy. Tatum is completing her senior year of high school and preparing for a career in the medical field. Colin is a high school junior and is nearing completion of his Eagle Scout rank.
The family enjoys traveling, camping, attending sporting events and hiking together.
