Martha Shelton, Who Lived in Brownwood Since Childhood, Dies at 95

Martha Ann Hurlbut Shelton, who had lived in Brownwood since she was 2 years old, died Monday, Sept. 7, at Pecan Bayou nursing center following a brief illness. She was 95.

Shelton died with her two children at her side. She was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Dallas, Texas, to Bert Edwards Hurlbut and Euphemia McCullough Hurlbut.

Family remembers longtime Brownwood resident

Shelton is survived by her daughter, Marcella “Marcy” Shelton Nicklas, and her son, Ted Edward Shelton Jr., and his wife, Mary Lee Bailey Shelton.

Her grandchildren are Martha Camille Ewing and her husband, Wayne Ewing; Emily Page Nicklas; Chris Eldridge Preciado-Shelton and his wife, Stephanie Preciado-Shelton; Paige Ann Sharp and her husband, Jon Sharp; and Spencer Teague Shelton.

Her great-grandchildren include Brett Pohlmeyer and his fiancée, Alexis Moore; Rodney Trevor Haire; Harlan James Haire; Ella Anne Ewing; and Eldridge Sage Preciado-Shelton.

She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial service plans pending

The family is planning a memorial service. Details will be shared when arrangements have been determined.
