A Brown County Grand Jury returned 28 true bills against 19 people during its August 2026 session, according to District Attorney Micheal Murray. The indictments, reported by Brownwood News on Aug. 31, include allegations ranging from controlled-substance possession and aggravated assault to family violence, child sexual assault and repeat evading-arrest charges.

An indictment is a formal charging action and does not establish guilt. The cases will proceed through the criminal court system, where defendants are entitled to due process.

Charges listed in the August session

The individuals named in the report and the charges listed against them are:

  • Trevor Shane Lorah: Possession of a controlled substance, 1-4 grams.
  • Bryson Lee Powell: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and endangering a child.
  • Tyler Ray Glass: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, habitual offender.
  • Lori Stephens: Possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram.
  • Chadley Dewayne Musick: Assault family violence-occlusion.
  • Michael Luis Tapia: Sexual assault of a child.
  • Eliseo Aldape-Ortiz, also known as Eliseo Ortiz-Aldape: Driving while intoxicated, third or more.
  • Samantha Abigail Zebi: Possession of a controlled substance, 1-4 grams, and evading arrest.
  • Cameron Michael Thompson: Possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram.
  • Darla Ann Sweetman: Injury to an elderly person.
  • Tyler Jeremiah Sims: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
  • Cheryl Ann Sullivan: Possession of a controlled substance, 4-200 grams.
  • Jared James Crouch: Assault family violence-occlusion.
  • Hank Thomas Perry: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
  • Robert Lawrence Mattes: Evading arrest, repeat offender; harassment of a public servant, repeat offender; two counts of evading arrest, repeat offender; and retaliation, repeat offender.

When names are released

The District Attorney’s Office said it does not release names on new indictments until the grand jury proceedings have been processed through the District Clerk and a file-marked copy of the Grand Jury Report has been returned.

The office also said it withholds the names of people indicted but not yet arrested when an indictment has been sealed. Those names are not released until the time of arrest.

In addition, the office said it will not release the names of people who have not had formal charges filed against them and were no-billed by a grand jury. The August report identifies the 19 people named after the proceedings were processed under that policy.
