A 29-year-old man is being held without bond in the Brown County Jail after two people were found dead Friday evening at a residence on Abilene St. just outside Brownwood city limits, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Robert Clinton Hamill Jr. and said he was arrested on a charge of capital murder involving two or more individuals. The case follows a report of a double homicide at the residence.
What investigators reported
At approximately 5:24 p.m. on October 30, 2026, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Brownwood Police Department responded to the residence after a caller reported finding two deceased people inside.
The caller was identified as Hamill. After officers entered the residence, they found Robert Clinton Hamill Sr., 57, and Billie Yoakum Hamill, 50, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office reported.
Hamill Jr. was interviewed before being arrested. Justice of the Peace Mitchell Jacobson later magistrated him, and jail records described in the report indicate he remained in custody without bond at the time of the announcement.
Officials report no continuing public threat
The sheriff’s office said it does not believe the incident presents any further safety issues for residents of Brown County. The investigation was described as a Friday night double-homicide investigation, with the sheriff’s office issuing its update Saturday morning.
The arrest is an allegation, and the charge remains subject to the court process. The information available in the sheriff’s office release did not state a possible motive or provide additional details about the circumstances inside the residence.
