A Texas State Technical College leader representing the Brownwood campus has received one of the college’s highest employee honors. Alana Hefner, TSTC’s vice president of career services, was presented with the Chancellor’s Cornerstone Award on Wednesday, Oct. 14, alongside three employees from the college’s Sweetwater campus.
The annual award recognizes TSTC employees who demonstrate the institution’s core values of excellence, accountability, integrity and service. TSTC said employees at each campus submit nominations, which are reviewed and forwarded to Chancellor and CEO Mike Reeser for the final decision.
Brownwood campus representative recognized
Hefner has worked at TSTC for three years. According to the college, she has played an important role in developing new partnerships with industries in the region and across Texas through her work in career services.
“I was shocked when I learned I received this honor. I am proud to call TSTC my home,” Hefner said.
Her recognition placed the Brownwood campus among the two West Texas campuses represented in this year’s awards. The other recipients were Joni Coons, senior coordinator of residence life; Ty Liedtke, an Automotive instructor; and Monica Wagner, executive director of facilities, all from Sweetwater.
What the award recognizes
Reeser said the award is intended to highlight employees whose work contributes to TSTC’s broader success.
“At the heart of TSTC’s success is the exceptional quality of our people,” Reeser said. “Within that remarkable team are individuals who consistently go above and beyond, and this award recognizes and celebrates those people.”
The recipients’ service at TSTC ranges from three years to 37 years. Coons began at the college as an Emergency Medical Services instructor and later advanced to her current position. Liedtke has taught Automotive for three years and also helps with campus events while working with students in the lab. Wagner is a 20-year TSTC veteran who also serves as an adjunct instructor in the Building Construction program in Sweetwater.
Coons, Liedtke and Wagner each described the recognition as meaningful because it came from colleagues. The award process is based on nominations submitted by employees at the campuses, rather than a public nomination process.
TSTC said registration is open for the spring semester. Prospective students seeking additional information can visit TSTC.edu.
