Pamela Ann Hetzel, whose nursing career at Brownwood Regional Hospital spanned more than 30 years, died peacefully on September 25, 2026. She was 77.
Hetzel was remembered for a life centered on service, family and caring for others. Her career in nursing began in 1973, the same year she graduated from the Brownwood School of Nursing. She remained closely connected to Brownwood Regional Hospital for more than three decades.
A life rooted in Brownwood
Born February 19, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, Pamela was the daughter of Harry Albert Billman and Opal Irene Donahue. She moved with her family to Kansas City during her early childhood before settling in Brownwood at age 16, after her father purchased the local Western Auto hardware store.
She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1965 and married Richard Hetzel in May of that year. The couple later welcomed two children, Keith and Kellie.
For Hetzel, nursing was described as more than a profession. She took pride and fulfillment in helping others and easing the burdens of people in her care during her years at Brownwood Regional Hospital.
Family, travel and memories
Outside her work, Hetzel valued time with her family. Vacations to the sunny beaches of Mexico were among her greatest sources of joy, and those trips created cherished memories over the years.
She is survived by her son, Keith Hetzel, and his wife, Stacee Hetzel, along with their children, Alex and CarolAnn. She is also survived by her daughter, Kellie Allison, and Kellie’s children, James Hickman, Jenna Walker and Caleb Allison, as well as her brother, Doug Billman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Opal Billman, and her brothers, Gary Billman, James Billman and Ronald Billman.
