Melody Baker, a longtime nurse and CPR instructor who was remembered for serving others, died Sept. 4 at age 71. She was from Arlington, Texas.
Her family will hold a visitation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with interment planned at Crosscut Cemetery in Brown County.
A career devoted to nursing
Baker earned an associate degree in nursing and built a long career in healthcare. She also worked as a CPR instructor. At the time of her retirement, she was head nurse for multiple adult homes serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Evergreen in Arlington.
She was a member of Woodland West Church of Christ. Her obituary described her as having a servant’s heart and as someone who continued serving and helping others even when she had little to share herself.
Family remembers her devotion to grandchildren
Baker was born May 30, 1955, in Odessa, Texas, to Merlin Calvin Hutchins and Norma Jean Wilson. She married Harry Eugene Baker Jr. in Garland, Texas, on Dec. 9, 1977.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harry Eugene Baker Jr.; her only child, Rocky Dale Baker; her daughter-in-law, Shaun Michele Baker; and five grandchildren: Skyler Baker, Cheyenne Baker, Rocky Baker Jr., Mallory Baker and Mason Baker.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Michael Hutchins, James Hutchins and Kevin Hutchins, and her sister, Janece Ulrich.
