Jacky “Jack” Clyde Platter, a Brownwood man remembered for his generosity, humor and willingness to help others, died at his home on Sept. 6, 2026. He was 65.
Platter was born in Brownwood on May 30, 1961, to Jimmy and Carol Platter. He was the only boy in a family of six children and attended Brookesmith High School. After working in the oil field for several years, he later built a career in maintenance.
A life of work, humor and helping others
Platter worked in maintenance at Brownwood Manor, where he became known for going above and beyond for the elderly residents. His efforts were sometimes accompanied by a prank, according to his obituary, but helping people remained important to him.
He enjoyed fishing and working on small gas engines and electric motors. He also shared his father’s interest in power tools. His family described him as someone with a distinctive way of doing things, a large heart and a readiness to help when he could.
Platter was also remembered as a devoted brother to his five sisters and as a person who made friends throughout Texas. His obituary described him as someone who never met a stranger and who could make people laugh with stories and an unfiltered sense of humor.
He was known as “Uncle Jack” to many people, including some who were not his biological nieces or nephews. The obituary specifically noted his close place in the lives of Dustin Sanchez, Dacoda Russell, Jasmine Sowell, Abby and Alex, who brought him happiness whenever they visited.
Family and memorial arrangements
In his later years, Platter adapted to using a crutch and a mobility scooter, turning even ordinary travel into an adventure, according to his family’s account.
He is survived by his companion, Donna Baldwin; sisters Brenda Hutchens, Belinda Minica and her husband, Cotton, Jimmie Carol Paz, and Melody Henderson and her husband, Troy; and brother-in-law Greg Dibrell. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Platter was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Carol Platter of Brownwood, and his oldest sister, Becky Dibrell.
A come-and-go Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Victory Life Church Annex Building, 901 CC Woodson Rd. in Brownwood.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a local food bank. Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood is handling arrangements.
