The Class 3A No. 16 Early Lady Horns will begin District 8-3A volleyball play next week with a perfect 19-0 record after closing their non-district schedule with a four-set home victory over Coleman Tuesday evening.
Early dropped the opening set 17-25 but responded by winning the next three, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-17. The result completed a spotless pre-district run for the team, which is ranked No. 16 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
DeVillier leads Early attack
Aubrie DeVillier delivered a season-high 22 kills to lead the Lady Horns offensively. Ella DeVillier added 11 kills, while Grey Pruett finished with nine. Racy Pruett recorded four kills, Kailyn Gallardo had two and Sunny Groom added one.
Grey Pruett led Early with 24 assists, followed by Groom with 13. Aubrie DeVillier was credited with one assist. From the service line, Racy Pruett and Aubrie DeVillier each recorded two aces, while Gallardo contributed one.
Early controls the net and back row
Jaime Lyon paced the defensive effort with 34 digs. Aubrie DeVillier followed with 20, Gallardo had 15, Grey Pruett recorded 13, Groom finished with 10, Racy Pruett had eight and Ella DeVillier added one.
At the net, Ella DeVillier collected five blocks. Racy Pruett and Aubrie DeVillier each recorded two blocks, while Grey Pruett added one.
The Lady Horns now have several days before their district opener. Early is scheduled to return to action Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Dublin for the start of District 8-3A play.
