Brownwood tennis heads to Glen Rose with second place on the line after weekend split

Brownwood High tennis will play for second place in the final District 6-4A standings when the Lions and Lady Lions meet Peaster at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Glen Rose. The match follows a weekend in which Brownwood added two non-district contests to its schedule and fell to Fredericksburg, 16-3, and Snyder, 10-9.

Despite the two losses, Brownwood produced a strong showing against Snyder, winning six of nine boys matches while the Lady Lions added three victories. Parker Dennison and Duncan Dennison were central to the weekend effort, combining for six wins for the Lions and Lady Lions.

Brownwood wins nine matches against Snyder

In boys doubles against Snyder, No. 1 Blake Hutchins and Aiden Opltonik defeated Jayden Acosta and Adrian Alanis, 4-0, 2-4, 19-17. The No. 3 team of Parker Dennison and Duncan Dennison also won, beating Destin Dagani and Tony Thammauvonga, 4-0, 4-0.

Brownwood’s boys singles winners were Hutchins at No. 1, Oplotnik at No. 2, Parker Denninson at No. 5 and Duncan Dennison at No. 6. Hutchins defeated Acosta, 5-4 [6], 5-4 [3], while Oplotnik beat Abel Rios, 4-1, 4-1. Parker Denninson won over Bryan Villa, 4-1, 4-1, and Duncan Dennison defeated Dagani, 5-3, 4-1.

The Lady Lions’ Snyder victories came from the No. 3 doubles team of Amy Deechaleune and Willow Camp, along with singles players Gigi Rodriguez and Deechaleune. Deechaleune and Camp defeated Jhalia Escobeda and Lily Rauch, 4-1, 1-4, 10-6. Rodriguez beat Mya Hale, 4-1, 4-2, and Deechaleune defeated Escobeda, 5-4 [3], 1-4, 10-8.

Dennison brothers also win against Fredericksburg

Against Fredericksburg, Brownwood’s three victories came from the No. 3 boys doubles team of Parker and Duncan Dennison and the brothers’ singles matches. Parker and Duncan defeated Gold and Martin, 4-0, 4-1. Parker then beat Max Hogan, 4-1, 4-1, while Duncan defeated Will Martin by the same score.

The Lions and Lady Lions enter Tuesday’s match with records listed as 4-8 and 4-1. The Peaster contest is the District 6-4A finale, with second place at stake. Brownwood is scheduled to compete in the playoffs next week regardless of the outcome.
