Brownwood High tennis finished a difficult weekend in Abilene with an 18-1 loss to Canyon High on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Rose Park. The result left the Brownwood team with a 0-4 record after weekend losses to Hereford, Wall and Canyon West Plains.

Duncan Dennison provided Brownwood’s lone win, taking the No. 6 boys singles match. The Lions and Lady Lions will have an opportunity to reset when they return home for their next competition.

Brownwood’s boys singles players Saturday included No. 1 Blake Hutchins, No. 2 Aiden Oplotnik, No. 3 Cooper Morgan, No. 4 Ian Cervantes, No. 5 Parker Dennison and No. 6 Duncan Dennison.

The girls singles lineup featured No. 1 Jami Patterson, No. 2 Gigi Rodriguez, No. 3 Coulter Day, No. 4 Arely Carrere, No. 5 Willow Camp and No. 6 Amy Deechaleune.

District opener coming Aug. 20

The team’s next match is scheduled for Aug. 20, when Brownwood hosts Brock in the District 6-4A opener. It will also be the Lions’ first home match of the season, according to the report.

Brownwood’s boys doubles teams were Hutchins and Oplotnik, Morgan and Cervantes, and Duncan Dennison and Parker Dennison. The girls doubles pairings were Deechaleune and Patterson, Rodriguez and Carrere, and Camp and Day. Alondra Luna and Reece Davis played mixed doubles for Brownwood.
