Brownwood-area athletes will face a packed schedule from Tuesday, Sept. 1, through Saturday, Sept. 5, with Brownwood teams competing in volleyball, tennis, cross country and football. The week includes a Friday-night matchup against Stephenville, a Brownwood tennis home date with Mineral Wells and a Howard Payne football game in California.
Brownwood teams open the week Tuesday
Brownwood volleyball is scheduled to travel to Clyde for a 6 p.m. match Tuesday, Sept. 1. Brownwood tennis is also set to compete that afternoon, hosting Mineral Wells at 4 p.m.
Other Tuesday volleyball matches involving area schools include Coleman at Early at 6:30 p.m., Bangs at Junction at 6 p.m., Olfen at Brookesmith at 5:30 p.m., Christoval at Zephyr at 6 p.m., Hico at Comanche at 6:30 p.m., Richland Springs at Lometa at a time listed as to be announced, and Bluff Dale at Rising Star at 6 p.m.
Cross country and football continue Thursday and Friday
Cross country runners will compete Wednesday, Sept. 2, at two invitationals. Early, Blanket, Zephyr and May are listed for the Zephyr Invitational at 9 a.m., while Bangs and Coleman are scheduled for the Hico Invitational at 9 a.m. The schedule also lists Zephyr at the Zephyr Invitational at 9 a.m.
Thursday’s football slate includes Rising Star at Brookesmith at 7 p.m. The largest local football lineup arrives Friday, Sept. 4. Stephenville is scheduled to visit Brownwood for a 7 p.m. kickoff, while Early travels to Breckenridge, Haskell visits Bangs, Strawn visits May and Zephyr plays at Baird. Those games are all listed for 7 p.m.
Friday’s additional football schedule includes Blanket versus Rocksprings at Rochelle, Comanche at Cisco, Big Spring Pathway at Coleman, San Saba at Eastland, Goldthwaite at Granger, Cross Plains at Hico and Olfen at Mullin. Blackwell at Santa Anna, Richland Springs at Gustine and Cherokee at Sidney are listed for 7:30 p.m., as is Panther Creek at Irion County.
Howard Payne, volleyball and Saturday events
Howard Payne is scheduled to play Pacific in college football Friday at 9 p.m. The listing does not provide a venue for that game.
Brownwood volleyball is set to play at Wall at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Other volleyball matches that day include Llano at Comanche at 5 p.m., followed by Saturday matches featuring Hawley at Coleman at noon, Paint Rock at Mullin at 10 a.m. and Lometa at Rising Star at 10 a.m.
Brownwood cross country is scheduled to compete at the Lamasas Invitational Friday, although the meet time is listed as to be announced. The published schedule covers events through Saturday, Sept. 5.
