Brownwood posted a modest increase in October sales tax revenue as all three cities in Brown County reported gains, according to data released this week by the Texas Comptroller’s Office.
The City of Brownwood received $599,542 in October sales tax revenue, an increase of 0.91% compared with October 2025. The Brownwood Municipal Development District also reported higher collections, receiving $197,193, up 1.06% from the same month a year earlier.
Revenue reflects August retail activity
October’s sales tax distribution from the state marks the first revenue payment of the new 2026/2027 fiscal year. The figures reflect taxable retail sales made in August 2026, meaning the October amounts provide a look at local commercial activity from two months earlier.
Brownwood’s increases were smaller than those recorded by the other two Brown County cities, but the countywide trend was positive.
Early records largest increase
The City of Early reported $271,686, a 42.85% increase over October 2025. Its Municipal Development District received $90,645, up 42.36% year over year.
Bangs recorded a 2.70% increase in city sales tax revenue, receiving $22,349. The Bangs Municipal Development District collected $4,263, an increase of 27.06% from October 2025.
The October figures were reported by Brownwood News on October 8, 2026, based on information released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office. The report does not identify specific businesses or retail categories responsible for the changes.
