Brownwood closed its 2025/2026 fiscal year with higher sales tax receipts than the previous year, according to September allocations from the Texas Comptroller’s Office. The city received $657,053 for September, a 6.21% increase over September 2025.
The September allocation reflects taxable retail sales made in July 2026. It also completes the fiscal-year accounting period running from October 2025 through September 2026.
Brownwood finishes fiscal year ahead of 2024/2025
For the full 2025/2026 fiscal year, Brownwood received $7,790,022 in sales tax revenue. That was a 3.38% increase over the city’s total for fiscal year 2024/2025.
The latest figures indicate that Brownwood’s sales tax receipts increased both in the final monthly allocation and across the completed fiscal year. Sales tax collections are tied to taxable retail activity, although the figures reported for September represent sales from two months earlier.
Brownwood Municipal Development District also reports gains
The Brownwood Municipal Development District received $212,783 in its September allocation. That amount was 4.87% higher than the district received in September 2025.
Across fiscal year 2025/2026, the Brownwood MDD received $2,526,971, an increase of 3.65% compared with fiscal year 2024/2025.
The MDD’s receipts are reported alongside the city’s collections in the monthly allocation figures. The district is one of the local entities whose revenue totals rose during the completed fiscal year.
Early and Bangs also post increases
Brownwood was not the only Brown County city to record higher September receipts and a year-over-year fiscal-year increase. Early received $272,446 in September, up 30.80% from September 2025. Its full-year total was $2,972,866, a 27.13% increase over the previous fiscal year.
The Early Municipal Development District received $90,079 in September, an increase of 30.52%. For the full 2025/2026 fiscal year, the Early MDD received $981,072, up 27.93% from 2024/2025.
Bangs received $23,209 in September, an 8.47% increase over September 2025. Its fiscal-year total reached $323,582, up 14.56% from the prior fiscal year.
The Bangs Municipal Development District received $4,304 in September, an increase of 31.46%. Its full-year total was $47,335, which represented a 17.15% increase over fiscal year 2024/2025.
