The Brownwood Lady Lions closed the Godley volleyball tournament with a split Saturday, responding to a straight-set loss to Waco University by sweeping Cedar Hill. Brownwood, now 7-11, is scheduled to return to the court at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Clyde.
Brownwood sweeps Cedar Hill
Brownwood defeated Cedar Hill 25-13, 25-15. Demayha Hooker produced a season-high 10 kills, while Camryn Gipson and Kaydence Chandler added three kills apiece. Ashantia Green and Lexi Driskill each contributed two.
Driskill led the passing effort with 15 assists. Jordyn Brixey recorded three assists, while Green and Chandler each added one. Chandler served three aces; Green, Hooker and McLean each had one.
Green led Brownwood defensively with eight digs. Driskill, Brixey and Abby Brasher collected three each, while Hooker and Kendall Ratliff had two apiece. Hooker also finished with three blocks, and Driskill and Chandler each had one.
University takes two close sets
The Lady Lions opened Saturday with a 25-22, 26-24 loss to Waco University. Green and Hooker led Brownwood’s attack with five kills each. Gipson added two, while Driskill, Brixey, McLean and Adyn Lucas each recorded one.
Driskill posted 12 assists, with Brixey adding three and Hooker one. Brixey served three aces, McLean and Chandler had two each, and Driskill and Lucas added one apiece.
Hooker led the defense with four digs. Green, Lucas, Kendall Ratliff and Brasher each had three; Brixey and McLean recorded two apiece; and Driskill and Hollyn Duncan had one each. Brownwood did not record a block against University.
Across the two matches, Hooker finished with 15 kills and eight blocks. The next opportunity for the Lady Lions comes Tuesday evening in Clyde, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
