The Brownwood Lady Lions varsity cross country team finished second at the Tenroc Invitational in Salado on Thursday morning, placing behind the host team in a meet that featured strong individual performances from Brownwood runners.
Brownwood scored 62 points, while Salado won with 17 points after placing five runners among the top six. The Lady Lions recorded three top-10 finishes and four top-20 finishes. The result came one week after Brownwood won the team championship at the Lampasas meet.
Freshman leads Brownwood’s varsity girls
Freshman Jordan Johnson led the Lady Lions, finishing fourth in 11:51.68. Freshman Alexus Gutierrez placed eighth in 12:26.21, followed by junior Rebekkah Delgado in ninth at 12:27.4.
Freshman Lynlee Richmon finished 20th in 12:55.85. Sophomore Destiny Sharp was 23rd in 13:07.64, freshman Paisley Hill placed 33rd in 13:46.25, and sophomore Ailean Palacios finished 39th in 14:15.01.
Brownwood boys finish seventh
The Brownwood Lions placed seventh in the boys varsity competition with 190 points. Giddings won with 57 points, followed by Lorena with 64, China Spring with 117, Salado with 150, Waco Vanguard with 158 and Smithville with 170.
Junior Juston Burt paced Brownwood by finishing 19th in 18:10.23. Junior Jonathan Skrhak placed 38th in 19:01.67, while junior Adrian Skrhak was 40th in 19:16.33.
Freshman Maddox Butka finished 49th in 19:57.82, senior Jonathan Solano was 71st in 20:57.19, and junior Brayden Musick placed 90th in 22:01.01.
JV Lady Lions edge Salado
Brownwood’s junior varsity Lady Lions won their division with 27 points, narrowly edging host Salado, which finished with 28 points.
Freshman Breelynn Penn led the Brownwood JV team with a second-place finish in 13:49.02. Freshman Ellie Mirahmadi-Zoghi placed fourth in 14:03.52, followed by freshman Valeria Valadez-Trejo in fifth at 14:06.2 and freshman Ellie Lee in sixth at 14:25.28.
Freshman Linnie Thompson finished 10th in 14:36.53. Freshman Jailey Cisneroz placed 42nd in 16:44.89, and sophomore Brooklyn Bouldin was 43rd in 16:47.24.
In the JV boys competition, Bennett Windham finished fifth while returning from an injury, and Brayden Munsell placed seventh for Brownwood.
The Brownwood teams are scheduled to compete next at the Heart of Texas Invitational in Brady on Wednesday. They will then travel to the Round Rock McNeil Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18, at Old Settlers Park, the site of the UIL Cross Country State Championships.
