The Brownwood Lady Lions began District 6-4A volleyball competition with a road loss Tuesday night, falling to Mineral Wells in four sets. Mineral Wells won 25-20, 25-15, 10-25 and 25-23.
The defeat moved Brownwood to 7-18 overall and 0-1 in district play. Despite dropping the opening two sets, the Lady Lions answered with a 25-10 win in the third before Mineral Wells closed out the match with a narrow fourth-set victory.
Hooker leads Brownwood attack
Demayha Hooker paced Brownwood with 10 kills. Ashantia Green added eight, while Lexi Driskill and Kaydence Chandler finished with five kills apiece. Camryn Gipson recorded three kills; Kimber McLean had two; and Adyn Lucas added one.
Driskill and Jordyn Brixey each recorded 17 assists, with Abby Brasher credited with one. Brixey and Brasher served three aces apiece. Green, Hooker, Chandler and McLean each added one ace.
Defensive totals and next match
Driskill led the Lady Lions defensively with 16 digs. Green and Kendall Ratliff had 10 digs each, followed by Brasher with nine, Brixey with six, Camryn Gipson and Hooker with four apiece, Hollyn Duncan with three, Lucas with two, and Chandler with one.
At the net, Hooker finished with three blocks. Gipson, Green and McLean each recorded one block.
Brownwood’s next opportunity comes at 4:30 p.m. Friday against district rival Graham. The match will be the Lady Lions’ second District 6-4A contest of the season.
