The Brownwood Lady Lions went winless in pool play Thursday at the Godley tournament, dropping matches to Kennedale, Sanger and Arlington Bowie. The 6-10 team is scheduled to return to tournament action at 9 a.m. Saturday against Waco University.
Brownwood opened the day with a 28-30, 25-16, 25-21 loss to Kennedale. Demayha Hooker led the Lady Lions with six kills, followed by Camryn Gipson with five. Kaydence Chandler and Kimber McLean added three kills apiece, while Ashantia Green recorded two. Lexi Driskill, Adyn Lucas, Jordyn Brixey and Abby Brasher each had one kill.
Key performances against Kennedale
Driskill recorded 17 assists and Brixey added six. Brasher served four aces, while Chandler had one. Brasher also led Brownwood defensively with 12 digs. Driskill finished with 10 digs, followed by Brixey with seven, Kendall Ratliff with six and Gipson with five. Hooker made two blocks, while Green and Chandler each added one.
In the second match, Sanger defeated Brownwood 25-21, 25-16. Gipson led the Lady Lions with four kills. Green, Driskill, Hooker and Chandler each contributed three, while Brixey and McLean had one apiece. Driskill distributed 12 assists, and Brixey finished with five assists and Brownwood’s only ace.
Brasher again paced the defense against Sanger with seven digs. Green, Hooker, Ratliff and Brixey each had four digs, while Hollyn Duncan and Chandler recorded three apiece. Hooker registered two blocks, and Chandler added one.
Final pool-play defeat
Brownwood closed pool play with a 25-23, 25-19 loss to Arlington Bowie. Hooker’s five kills were a team high, and Chandler added four. Gipson, Green and McLean each recorded one kill. Driskill finished with eight assists, while Brixey had four. Brixey served two aces, and Green, Driskill and Brasher each served one.
Chandler led Brownwood with six digs against Arlington Bowie, followed by Ratliff with five. Driskill, Brixey and Brasher each recorded four digs. Hooker made five blocks at the net, and Chandler added one.
The Lady Lions’ next opportunity comes at 9 a.m. Saturday, when they resume Godley tournament action against Waco University.
