The Brownwood Lady Lions secured a top-five finish Wednesday at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet, while the Brownwood Lions finished in the top 15 during a 48-team competition at Riverside Park.
For the second consecutive year, Riverside Park hosted the meet. The Lady Lions finished fourth in the team standings with 125 points, behind Wall with 92, Brock with 100 and Greenwood with 119. The result followed Brownwood’s win at the Jim Ned Warpath Invitational on Aug. 15.
Lady Lions led by two top-15 finishers
Jordan Johnson was Brownwood’s top finisher in the girls’ two-mile race, placing ninth in 12:37.17. Rebekkah Delgado followed in 11th at 12:40.68. Alexus Gutierrez placed 21st in 13:04.8, followed by Destiny Sharp in 34th at 13:26.99 and Paisley Hill in 50th at 13:45.51.
Ailean Palacios finished 85th in 14:19.47, and Lynlee Richmon placed 88th in 14:20.95. Together, the results helped Brownwood remain among the leading teams in the varsity girls’ field.
Brownwood boys place 14th
The Brownwood Lions scored 428 points to finish 14th as a team. San Angelo Central led the boys’ standings with 19 points, followed by Abilene Wylie with 101 and Jim Ned with 113.
Juston Burt led the Brownwood boys in the three-mile race, placing 54th in 18:24.27. Adrian Skrhak finished 85th in 19:03.88, while Jonathan Skrhak was 88th in 19:09.56. Jonathan Solano placed 112th in 19:32.77, and Brayden Musick finished 118th in 19:37.77.
Brown County teams compete
Other Brown County teams also took part in the varsity meet. The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs finished ninth with 276 points, led by Stella Marwitz’s 22nd-place finish in 13:08.64. The Blanket Tigers placed 15th with 435 points, and the Zephyr Bulldogs finished 18th with 442 points.
The Bangs Lady Dragons placed 24th with 585 points, while the Early Lady Horns finished 30th with 859 points. Early also had two boys compete as individuals: Robert Ortega placed 187th in 22:03.73, and Wyatt Geron placed 239th in 28:35.43.
Brownwood’s junior varsity Lady Lions won the final team standings in their division. The Brownwood junior varsity boys placed third in their draw.
