The Brownwood Lady Lions delivered a strong showing at a major early-season test Friday morning, placing fifth as a team in the Class 4A division at the Round Rock McNeil Invitational.
The meet was held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, the site of the UIL Cross Country State Championships. Brownwood scored 188 points, finishing behind Canyon, Salado, Decatur and Randall in the 4A team standings.
Brownwood leads District 6-4A opponents
While the Lady Lions did not win the division, they finished ahead of all three District 6-4A rivals listed in the results. Stephenville placed seventh with 325 points, followed by Brock in 14th with 462 points and Glen Rose in 27th with 648 points.
Jordan Johnson led Brownwood individually, finishing 19th in 12:01.9. Rebekah Delgado was 21st in 12:06.2, and Alexus Gutierrez placed 23rd in 12:09.9.
Lynlee Richmon finished 51st in 12:37.0, while Paisley Hill placed 83rd in 12:59.7. Ellie Mirahmadi-Zoghi finished 127th in 13:31.6, Valeria Valadez-Trejo was 158th in 13:44.4, Breelynn Penn placed 190th in 13:58.4, and Ailean Palacios finished 219th in 14:13.8.
Next races include Riverside Park district meet
The Lions and Lady Lions are scheduled to return to competition Sept. 30 at Goldthwaite. Brownwood will then host the District 6-4A meet at Riverside Park on Oct. 12, giving local supporters an opportunity to watch the team compete in its district championship event.
