The Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to slow one of the state’s highest-ranked teams Friday, falling to Class 3A No. 8 Wall in straight sets, 25-7, 25-19, 25-12.
The loss came with the start of District 6-4A volleyball play just over two weeks away. Brownwood is now 7-13 and will have several days to prepare for its next match, a home meeting with Gatesville at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.
Brownwood’s leaders against Wall
Demayha Hooker paced the Lady Lions offensively with seven kills. Kaydence Chandler added four kills, while Ashantia Green, Lexi Driskill and Kimber McLean each recorded one.
Driskill led Brownwood’s setting effort with nine assists. Jordyn Brixey contributed four assists, and Green was credited with one. Hooker and Chandler each served an ace.
Defensive and net statistics
Abby Brasher finished with a team-high six digs. Green had five, Driskill and Brixey recorded two apiece, and Hooker, Chandler, Hollyn Duncan, Adyn Lucas, Kendall Ratliff and Kinsey Chandler each contributed one.
Chandler made two blocks at the net, while Hooker added one. The match was part of Brownwood’s challenging pre-district schedule as the team builds toward District 6-4A competition.
The Lady Lions’ next opportunity comes at home against Gatesville, giving Brownwood a chance to regroup before district play begins.
