Brownwood High tennis extended its District 6-4A winning streak to three matches Tuesday, with the Lions and Lady Lions combining for a 15-4 home victory over Glen Rose.
Brownwood built its advantage by sweeping all six doubles matches. The boys’ winners were Blake Hutchins and Aiden Oplotnik at No. 1, Cooper Morgan and Ian Cervantes at No. 2, and Duncan Dennison and Parker Dennison at No. 3.
On the girls’ side, Gigi Rodriguez and Jami Patterson won at No. 1, Coulter Day and Arely Carrere prevailed at No. 2, and Amy Deechaleune and Willow Camp won the No. 3 match. Deechaleune and Camp rallied after dropping the first set, winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.
Singles results
The Lions won five of six singles matches. Hutchins, Oplotnik, Cervantes, Parker Dennison and Duncan Dennison each recorded victories. Duncan Dennison’s match went three sets, ending with a 10-3 deciding-set win.
The Lady Lions added four singles victories, led by Patterson, Rodriguez, Day and Carrere. Patterson defeated Whitefield 6-3, 6-3, while Rodriguez beat McKenzie 6-2, 6-0. Day won 6-1, 6-2, and Carrere completed the group’s wins with a 6-0, 6-3 result.
Next match at Stephenville
The Lions and Lady Lions, listed at 3-5 overall and 3-1 in district play, return to action Thursday at Stephenville. The teams will resume a District 6-4A match that was postponed because of weather last Thursday.
Brownwood led that match 2-1 when play was stopped, and the contest will continue from that point.
