Brownwood High’s four-match tennis winning streak came to an end Tuesday as the Lions and Lady Lions fell to Class 5A Abilene Cooper, 14-5, in non-district action in Abilene.
Despite the team setback, Brownwood produced five individual or doubles victories. Gigi Rodriguez won at No. 2 girls singles, defeating A. Garza, 6-3, 6-4, for her sixth consecutive singles victory.
Ian Cervantes also secured a three-set win at No. 3 boys singles, overcoming J. Pickle, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9. Parker Dennison won the No. 5 boys singles match, 6-1, 7-5, over J. Garcia, while Duncan Dennison took the No. 6 match, 6-4, 7-6 [5], against A. Canon.
Dennison doubles team extends streak
Duncan and Parker Dennison added Brownwood’s fifth victory in No. 3 boys doubles. They defeated Quintanilla and Cano, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6, giving the pair five straight doubles wins.
District play resumes Oct. 1
Brownwood, listed at 4-6 overall and 4-1 in district play, will return to District 6-4A competition Oct. 1 against Peaster in Glen Rose. The Lions and Lady Lions will be seeking their fifth consecutive league triumph when district action resumes.
