Brownwood began the 2026 high school football season with a 13-7 victory over Abilene Wylie, putting the Lions at 1-0 overall heading into a Week 2 home game against Stephenville.

The Brownwood News standings, published Aug. 29, track 18 local high school teams across 11 districts. Because district play has not yet begun, Brownwood is listed at 0-0 in district competition and 1-0 overall in District 13-4A Division II.

Brownwood shares District 13-4A Division II with Waco La Vega, Gatesville, Robinson, Salado and Waco Connally. Brownwood and Waco La Vega are each 1-0 overall, while Gatesville, Robinson, Salado and Waco Connally opened 0-1.

In the district's Week 1 results, Brownwood beat Abilene Wylie 13-7. Lampasas defeated Gatesville 21-0, Bellville edged Robinson 36-35, Troy beat Salado 63-50, China Spring defeated Waco Connally 45-12, and Waco La Vega beat Franklin 42-16. Week 2 matchups include Stephenville at Brownwood, Glen Rose at Gatesville, Robinson at Springtown, Salado at Blanco, Waco Connally at Lorena and Waco La Vega at Austin LBJ.

Local teams entering Week 2 at 1-0

Several teams from the Brownwood area also opened with victories. In District 3-3A Division I, Early, Ingram Moore, Llano and Wall are 1-0. Early beat Merkel 35-26, Ingram Moore defeated Hondo 35-14, Llano beat Burnet 38-31 and Wall defeated Canyon West Plains 42-35. San Angelo TLCA is 0-1 after losing to Tahoka 39-25. Early will play at Breckenridge, Ingram Moore will host Brady, Llano will visit Jim Ned, San Angelo TLCA will play at Abilene TLCA, and Wall will face La Joya in Uvalde.

In District 5-3A Division II, Comanche is 1-0 after beating Breckenridge 28-6. Clifton and Rio Vista also opened 1-0, while Dublin, Eastland, Hamilton, Millsap and Tolar are 0-1. Comanche will play at Cisco in Week 2. Other scheduled games are West at Clifton, Santo at Dublin, San Saba at Eastland, Mason at Hamilton, Millsap at Callisburg, Rio Vista at Rosebud-Lott and Clyde at Tolar.

District 7-2A Division I includes Bangs and Coleman, both 1-0 after Week 1 wins. Bangs defeated Dublin 42-7, while Coleman beat Grape Creek 16-12. Johnson City and Mason also began 1-0. Brady and San Saba are 0-1. Week 2 games include Haskell at Bangs, Brady at Ingram Moore, Big Spring Pathway at Coleman, Johnson City at Devine, Mason at Hamilton and San Saba at Eastland.

Other area standings and upcoming games

In District 7-2A Division II, Albany, Cross Plains, Goldthwaite, Hamlin and Stamford are 1-0. Miles, Winters and the other listed teams are 0-1. Cross Plains will play at Hico, Goldthwaite will visit Granger, Hamlin will travel to Seymour, Miles will play at Christoval, Albany will host Anson, Stamford will host De Leon and Winters will host Colorado City.

District 7-A Division I lists Highland at 1-0, while Baird, Bronte, Paint Rock, Robert Lee and Santa Anna are 0-1. Highland beat Loraine 44-13 in Week 1 and will host West Texas. Other Week 2 games include Zephyr at Baird, Eden at Bronte, Paint Rock at Veribest, Grady at Robert Lee and Blackwell at Santa Anna.

In District 10-A Division I, Gordon, Gorman and Ranger opened 1-0. Lingleville and May are 0-1. Gordon will host Abilene Christian, Gorman will host Walnut Springs, Lingleville will host Perrin-Whitt, May will host Strawn and Ranger will host Woodson.

District 7-A Division II teams Blackwell, Loraine, Olfen, Panther Creek and Trent all began 0-1. Week 2 includes Blackwell at Santa Anna, Rotan at Loraine, Olfen at Mullin, Panther Creek at Irion County and Paint Creek at Trent.

In District 8-A Division II, Brookesmith, Cherokee and Richland Springs are 1-0, while Lohn and Rochelle are 0-1. Brookesmith will host Rising Star on Thursday, Cherokee will play at Sidney, Lohn will host Lueders-Avoca, Richland Springs will visit Gustine and Rochelle will play at Menard.

District 11-A Division II lists Rising Star, Sidney and Strawn at 1-0, with Moran at 0-1. Rising Star will play at Brookesmith on Thursday, Cherokee will visit Sidney, Moran will play at Rule and Strawn will visit May.

Finally, Blanket, Gustine and Zephyr are 1-0 in District 12-A Division II, while Mullin is 0-1. Blanket will face Rocksprings at Rochelle, Richland Springs will play at Gustine, Olfen will visit Mullin and Zephyr will play at Baird.
